Social media management for agencies: running multiple clients from one place
Running social media for several clients — or several of your own brands — creates a mess the tools rarely account for. You're juggling logins, keeping one client's content from landing on another's account, and onboarding freelancers without handing them the keys to everything. Here's how to keep it organized and secure.
The three problems agencies actually have
- Account separation. Each client's channels must stay walled off. One accidental cross-post to the wrong account is a reputation problem.
- Access control. A freelancer hired to run one client shouldn't be able to touch the others — and when they leave, cutting access should take one click, not a password reset across every account.
- Password security. Collecting clients' social passwords is a liability you don't want. If they're ever breached, it traces back to you.
Separate workspaces per client
The foundation is treating every client (or brand) as its own workspace, with its own connected channels. When you switch to a client, you see only their accounts, their posts, their schedule. Nothing bleeds across. For a multi-brand owner running, say, three companies, this is the difference between one chaotic feed and three clean ones.
Grant access per person, per client
Access should be a dial, not a switch. A good setup lets you:
- Add a teammate to one client without exposing the others.
- Set roles — an admin who connects channels versus a member who only posts.
- Control access down to individual channels.
- Revoke instantly when someone rolls off the account.
Never collect client passwords
This is the big one. Connect each client's channels through the platform's official delegated access instead of asking for their login. The client grants a scoped, revocable permission; you publish on their behalf; nobody types a password into your tool. It's safer for them and lower-liability for you — and it's an easy thing to promise in a pitch.
Then work at agency speed
With separation and access sorted, the day-to-day gets fast: repurpose one client recording into a week of clips, draft captions automatically, and schedule across every platform at once — per client, without ever mixing them up.
